Mists of Salamira
Among the various means granted to Salamis by the Creator to strengthen Salamira were ninety-nine holy banners. Each banner bears the symbol of one of the fallen heroes of the Salamiran history before the foundation of the capital. Monarchs, knights and even raiders used the coat of arms engraved into the long, fluttering flags' mystical silk, whose last wish was to aid the old king and his people forever, even after their death. Their essence and spirit is part of the banners' existence and can be called forth if there is a need for their help.
The Bannerguard is an elite circle of knights who swore to protect and carry these flags to where they might be needed. Lately these are usually areas struck by the True Mist, but nomadic raids, pirate attacks or even mythical threats might provide them a cause.
Their central fortess is one of the strongest citadels in Salamira baring the same name. Their numbers vary according to the number of flags in need of protection. Some of the holy banners are given to dukes and barons of Salamira as an honorary gift from the old king in return for their services and thus need not to be guarded by the order and about a dozen of them are lost.
